BIOGRAPHY

John B. Goodman is chairman of The Goodman Group. He has more than 45 years of experience in the management and operation of residential, commercial, senior living communities and health care centers. John became active in the family business in 1970 and graduated with honors from the University of Minnesota School of Business Administration in 1972. He took over management of the company in 1976. John holds the Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation from the Institute of Real Estate Management and is a licensed Minnesota Real Estate Broker. He has been a featured speaker at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, National Association of Senior Living Industries and University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management. John is committed to providing leadership that fosters personal growth and achievement, along with creating ways in which business can play a positive role in society.

John’s community service activities and affiliations include: member of the Board of Directors of the National Ethnic Coalition of Organizations Foundation, Inc. (NECO) – an organization formed in 1986 to promote tolerance and champion ethnic diversity through its Ellis Island Award Dinners and numerous charities it supports; Young Presidents’ Organization ─ active member since 1984; World Presidents’ Organization ─ active member since 1998; former member of World Business Academy ─ an international network of business executives involved with personal and business transformation; former director and member of the Executive and Membership Committees of Social Venture Network ─ an organization of business leaders committed to promoting a more just, humane and sustainable world; former member of Mount Sinai Hospital Board of Governors and Finance Committee; founding member and former director of Business for Social Responsibility ─ a national trade association of businesses committed to responsible business practices and social issues. John also is a member of American Cancer Society ─ active contributor of time and resources since 1986; American Health Care Association; Minnesota Multi-Housing Association and National Association of Senior Living Industries.

Under John’s leadership, The Goodman Group was honored with the prestigious 2014 Performance Excellence Advancement Level Award from The Performance Excellence Network. The Award is based on the Malcolm Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence and is the culmination of a rigorous evaluation of an organization’s management system.

In 2002, he received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor, which is awarded to people who exemplify themselves as humanitarians. In 2011, John received the Citizen of the Year award from the Largo-Mid Pinellas Chamber of Commerce, which was awarded for his generosity and dedication to the community of Largo, Florida.

Intergenerational Living & Health Care, Inc., a nonprofit organization, was formed in 1992 by John to establish senior living and health care communities and learning centers for children. It provides educational programs, housing and services, as well as intergenerational opportunities that link the children with older adults.

The Johnny B. Good Foundation was established in 1990 by John to sponsor programs and services that encourage individuals to accept responsibility for their lives. The goal is for individuals to learn to balance their bodies, minds, spirits and emotions so they can have freedom and maximize wellbeing.

John Goodman has collected his philosophies on life and business in two books published in July 2015. The Road to Self: Reflections from a Soulful CEO springs from a 2,500-mile road trip he took in 1990, after 20 years with the company. The second book, Moments Matter: Everyday Inspiration from a Soulful CEO, was written to inspire and encourage people in their everyday lives.
